This map is useful for an overview of the Ranger District within the Pisgah National Forest. Its scale is 1:50,000. For backpacking, hiking or camping in the forest, however, I recommend maps from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Southern Region. These topographical maps are at a scale of 1:24,000 and have more information about the forest. An example of such a map is the "Shining Rock & Middle Prong Wilderness, Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina, U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Southern Region."

Typical Topo Map. Nice detail. Has trails marked already which was nice and helped me find them easier, rather than having to find the coordinates on the map and try and guess where the correct trail was!

This map was wonderful on my backpacking trip in Shinning Rock and surrounding area. It even got us into Asheville! Great map!
