This map is useful for an overview of the Ranger District within the Pisgah National Forest. Its scale is 1:50,000. For backpacking, hiking or camping in the forest, however, I recommend maps from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Southern Region. These topographical maps are at a scale of 1:24,000 and have more information about the forest. An example of such a map is the "Shining Rock & Middle Prong Wilderness, Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina, U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Southern Region."
Typical Topo Map. Nice detail. Has trails marked already which was nice and helped me find them easier, rather than having to find the coordinates on the map and try and guess where the correct trail was!

NZ Frenzy is a guidebook to NZ’s North Island OUTDOOR places. Please read the reviews, as they’ll give you better insight than all my author hoopla (and note in the reviews that EVERY single review from someone who has actually had my book in NZ has given it 5 stars!) Please click on the “Look Inside” button and read some entries. I’ve personally been to every beach, every hot spring…and hiked all the trails. My book is an attempt to save you time and $ in NZ, while delivering you to the island’s unheralded but uber-worthy wonder spots that the mainstream books and tourist publicity gloss over. My book is meant to compliment the mainstream guidebooks, NOT replace them, as I feel you should get a LonelyP or RoughG for your NZ trip. My book is vastly different though. I wrote this guidebook because info about non-commercial stuff is difficult to find in NZ. NZ Frenzy is ALL ABOUT the outdoor spots that don’t receive all the tourist publicity. My guide does give you info about the touristy places like Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Waitomo Caves, Tongariro Crossing, etc…but mainly my book is about the off-the-beaten-track unpublicized, uncommercialized wonder spots—the places NZ Tourism doesn’t tell you about because nobody is making $$ off them. NZ Tourism, Lonely P, etc are great at directing you how to spend $$ and be a “tourist”….my book will get you away from the crowds to places that’ll make your jaw drop again and again!! I guarantee it! Even if the North is only one week of your trip, my book will be worth every penny. When you get to Hot Water Beach or Cape Reinga or Waitomo, etc …and see disappointing busloads of tourists, you’ll be glad to have my book in your hand to give you some other nearby options. I’m from the US and lived on the North Island of New Zealand for two months in 2008 — travelling from Auckland to Wellington.
Before leaving the US, I browsed the selection of New Zealand travel guides and was very disappointed. They were all bulky (I didn’t want to forfeit 50lbs of my allotted luggage to 5lbs of guidebooks), and most of the information listed was for generic, expensive tourist stops, lodging / dining, as well as the bulk of the book info on the South Island. I was looking for discovery and nature adventures off the beaten path on the North Island. Having no other choice at the time, I purchased a copy of Lonely Planet. I had lodging with locals and scarcely made use of this book as I found it to be completely tedious and useless with each adventure I tried to plan.
I’m now considering going back because the north island was so fantastic and just purchased NZ Frenzy on . I can immediately tell that NZ Frenzy GETS IT RIGHT! NZ Frenzy lists all the local "hidden" spots that you won’t find in Lonely Planet — the stuff that you’ll only find if you actually live with a local in those areas, like I did.
For example, two of my favorite places in Taupo were the Spa park hot springs along the Waikato River and the Aratiatia rapids and the walk along the river that lead to the amazing, untouched cascade of hot springs that feed into natural rock formation pools and then directly into the cool, clear river. For the most part these places are completely overlooked by other books, but in NZ Frenzy they are highlighted with multiple pages and more importantly, PHOTOS with diagrams. You won’t want to miss these free places when you’re in Taupo, but the mainstream guidebooks hardly even give them a sentence.

I got this book because we are totally new to the RV world and need all the help we can get. As of this review we have a brand new travel trailer sitting in our driveway but have yet to take it anywhere. We have spent the past month getting ready for our first trip which is coming up soon. That means lots of shopping and finding as many good resources as we can to help us do things right. This book has been a Godsend and after reading it I feel much more confident about what we’re doing and it will be nice to know we have a good reference we can refer to along the way. I loved the Quick Tips that were interspersed throughout the book and I book marked many of them. I also liked the handy RV website hyperlinks in my Kindle edition. I plan to join them all for more advice as we go. I highly recommend this book whether you’re a brand new RVer or even if you’re a seasoned veteran. I’m sure you’ll find lots of helpful information for whatever issues you face. It seems to all be covered here.
Well written and thoughtful. I have been RV’ing for 40 years and still picked up many new ideas. I sent copies to several friends as well.
As a long time RVer, I found many useful tips. We are never too old to learn new things. I have already put new things into play in our RV life. A smart person learns from other’s experiences. Not only can you learn to do things better, you can learn to save some money which is always helpful. You can also sign up for their email tip of the day and their email discussion group.

About the Author
June Parsons purchased her first computer, an Apple II+, in 1981 and quickly became fluent in BASIC, dBASE II, Lotus 123, WordStar, and a variety of accounting programs. The next year she opened a successful small computer retail store with Dan Oja that also offered software instruction to children and adults. Dr. Parsons taught at the university level for more than 20 years. She holds a doctorate in Educational Technology and was certified by the ICCP in 1995. Dr. Parsons began writing and creating educational software for Course Technology in 1992. She contributed to the Windows for Business and Illustrated Series and developed the New Perspectives, e-Course, and Practical series. She works via the Internet with a team of highly skilled media specialists and desktop publishers located in various states and provinces.

Awesome book! I just started a course with this book and I am renting it used. I needed the data files for the chapters to complete the tutorials and case problems, so I went to look online to buy it (reluctantly). Well, I went to cengage online, created an account (for free), and then I typed in my ISBN for this book and it came up with a button for free resources and study tools. So I clicked the link and it took me to where the data files are…FOR FREE! It has some other stuff too, but I was mainly concerned with data files. This worked for my ms word book as well. I have attached pictures of what you should see on the website after you find the book.
Just go to cengage brain dot com, create an account, search the isbn. The book should come up with that link for extra resources. Hope this helps some of you fellow learners out there.
Apparently this book does not come with the SAM access code or the disc. I figured buying it new that it would have everything, I guess I was wrong.
